THE skateboarding and sports community in Hook is buzzing with excitement after a new skate park opened its gates in Hartlett's Park on Wednesday, July 19.

The Hook Parish Council has invested approximately £250,000 to replace the ageing skate park, providing enthusiasts with a larger, state-of-the-art facility to hone their skills.

Replacing the outdated metal ramps, the new concrete park boasts a variety of thrilling obstacles and features suitable for all levels of expertise.

Among the exciting additions are quarter pipes, grinding ledge, flat bars, manual pad, flat bank, open bowl section, jump box, spine, rollover, mini quarter pipe, downrail, stairset, hubba, and blended transitions.

Residents, particularly skateboarding enthusiasts, actively participated in the planning and decision-making process through public consultations and project working groups.

Two Hook boys named Alex and Conner, who were involved in all the public consultations, were fortunate enough to be given the honour of inaugurating the new skate park by being the first to ride its sleek concrete surface.

Chairman of the Hook parish council, Rob Cowell, said: "We are so pleased to have been able to build this facility for our residents and open it just in time for the summer holidays. The old skate park held a special place in our hearts, and with the new park's improved design and features, we hope to extend this opportunity to more residents. It truly is a park for all abilities."
