A CHOIR spread across the south east has been recognised for its commitment to fostering a vibrant, supportive and engaging singing community for all.
Sing For Fun, which has groups in Andover and Basingstoke, was crowned the Best Community Choir, South East, in the SME’s annual awards.
Over the last 19 years, Sing For Fun has been a source of fun and friendship in the south east, bringing together people of all ages, backgrounds, and musical abilities.
Director Hannah Baron said: “We are proud to have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere where everyone, no matter their previous experience, can share the joy of singing, grow their musical skills, and form lasting friendships. This award acknowledges our ongoing dedication to excellence, inclusivity, and community engagement.
“As we celebrate this amazing achievement, we would like to extend an invitation to all who love singing to join us for the new term starting in September. Whether you are a seasoned singer or a beginner looking to find your voice, Sing For Fun offers a diverse range of repertoire from pop, to rock to musical theatre, to cater to all musical tastes and skill levels.”
Following its win, the choir has announced that it will be offering a free taster session for new members who might want to come along to try a session without any obligation.
Hannah continued: “We encourage anyone who's ever fancied being part of a choir, or simply enjoys singing in the shower, to come and experience the community spirit and camaraderie that defines Sing For Fun. There's no need to read music or have previous choir experience - all we ask for is your willingness to give it a go and a big dollop of enthusiasm.
“By joining Sing For Fun, you're not only becoming part of an award-winning community choir but also contributing to our shared mission of spreading joy through music in the South East. We look forward to welcoming you into our choir and creating beautiful harmonies together.”
Sing For Fun currently have groups in Andover, Basingstoke, Goring, Newbury, and Reading, with plans to further expand in 2024.
