AN OVERTON man has been disqualified after police caught him behind the wheel over the drink-drive limit.

Jeffery Hewit, of Vinns Lane, on July 17, drove a Smart car on Worting Road with 49 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.

During a hearing which was held at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court, the 61-year-old pleaded guilty to the driving offence.

Magistrates banned him from getting behind the wheel for 12 months and ordered a fine of £400 to be paid.

He must also pay court costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £160.
