A VILLAGE pub has been told it needs to improve its food hygiene after being given a one-star rating following an inspection.
The Calleva Arms, in Silchester, was visited by a food hygiene inspector on Monday, July 17 who gave it a rating of one out of five for its hygiene.
The inspector found that ‘major improvement’ is needed for the management of food safety, which includes having systems or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat; evidence that staff know about food safety; and confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.
Hygienic food handling was also found to need improvement, which includes preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.
The cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building were found to be ‘generally satisfactory’ by the inspector.
The pub, which offers a menu including burgers, pies and fish and chips, has been asked for a comment.
