BASINGSTOKE'S most dangerous neighbourhoods have been revealed in new crime statistics, with Basingstoke being named the third most dangerous major town in Hampshire.

Data provided by crimerate.co.uk shows that the overall crime rate in Basingstoke in 2022 was 85 crimes per 1,000 people.

However, to put the data into perspective for England, Wales and Northern Ireland as a whole, Basingstoke is the 37th safest major town, and the 1,192nd most dangerous location out of all towns, cities and villages.

The most common crimes in Basingstoke were violence and sexual offences, with 4,942 offences during 2022, giving a crime rate of 43.

This is 12 per cent higher than 2021's figure of 4,422 offences, with a crime rate of 39.

Basingstoke's least common crime is theft from the person, with 68 offences recorded in 2022, the same as 2021's figure of 68 crimes.

Breaking the data down by neighbourhood, Basingstoke Central, Black Dam and Eastrop ranks as the most dangerous neighbourhood in the town, with 1,707 crimes committed in 2022, giving it a crime rate of 222 per 1,000 people.

Houndmills and Oakridge ranks as the second most dangerous neighbourhood, with 917 crimes and a crime rate of 123 per 1,000 people.

While Kings Furlong ranked third, with 1,024 crimes and a crime rate of 121 per 1,000 people.
