A BASINGSTOKE resident was surprised by staff with a trip to his hometown.
Staff at Ashcombe House, in Worting Road, planned a trip to Southsea for residents.
Among the group of residents was Gerry Godden, who lived in Portsmouth for over 90 years before moving to Basingstoke to be closer to family.
Gerry said: “It’s been a truly fantastic day; I’ve enjoyed every minute and it’s nice to be back home.”

Gerry and the other residents of enjoyed crabbing and catching small fish, before taking a walk down Southsea Promenade and having fish and chips for lunch.
Activities coordinator Michelle Martin said: “To take a resident back to his hometown and be by the seaside when he never thought he would have the chance again has made this simply the best day, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
“He really didn’t think he would ever see the sea again. The staff planned the trip to give Gerry the opportunity to go back to the coast, as he had not been since moving to Basingstoke."
