My biggest passion in life is art and to help inspire others to reach their fullest potential. My ambitions and everything I do in life now is driven by an unrelenting desire to help my son become everything he can and wants to be. I want him to give him every opportunity in life and for him to be proud of his dad. He is my source of happiness and inspiration.
If you’re lucky enough to have lived through the 80s, 90s and beyond, it is very likely you will recognise every one of these. That advert where the gorilla is playing the drums for Cadbury, Pogs, the Harry Potter films, Lion King film and musical (costume design), McDonald’s logo, the London Underground map, Barbie, Wembley Stadium (which one I hear you say) and there are countless other examples.
I wanted to instantly capture your focus and imagination. Whether we realise it or not; art is actually in almost every single thing around us (even the paper you are reading. Look up and around you and you might see clothes or roads and even they are built upon a piece of art). Everything has an element of design and creativity. Our ideas matter, our voice and designs count.
So, the next time you pause with a wonderful idea, write it down. If you’re about to worry about a child making a mess during creative play/drawing on the walls; perhaps you would agree that “most things can be washed; memories can last a lifetime.”
Artists and art will often divide opinion. What defines a beautiful piece of art? The answer to that is subjective and in truth I can’t imagine everyone will ever have a unanimous decision. What I have come to realise over time is that I often misunderstood things at first glance when looking at art.
I am not trying to convert everyone into an art lover. What I want to achieve is to open people’s minds to what possibilities there are and for every single one of us to truly follow our dreams by embracing our abilities and creativity. Believe it or not art has that power to make them happen.
Many will tell you artists struggle financially, they are just pretty pictures or that’s not a stable profession. Let me set those points straight.
Let me revisit the statement above: “Art is in almost everything around us”. With that in mind; some of the greatest artists are now designing computer games, architects, landscape gardeners (Chelsea Flower Show), stadium designers, food photographers, illustrators as well as scientists and astronomers…and so many more.
What makes you successful is more to do with how much you want to achieve that success and the ambition you have for that venture/dream. I would welcome a reform (a conversation for another time) to see every child have more freedom to develop creativity. I see those skills as critical to helping develop our future.
