A BASINGSTOKE man who was arrested after he was seen with what looked like a firearm has now been charged.

Jason McCrae, 48, from May Place, has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm in a public place and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence following an incident in Basingstoke.

It comes after officers were called to the Popley and Oakridge areas of Basingstoke on Thursday, September 14, following a report that a man was seen with what looked like a firearm.

Officers attended and arrested the man at the scene.

The weapon was seized by specialist officers and deemed to be an imitation firearm.

McCrae was also charged with using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress.

He appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Saturday, September 16, and has been bailed with conditions.

He is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday, October 19.
