A Basingstoke man has been ordered to pay a total of more than £300 in fines and fees after being found guilty of not paying a £1.75 fare for a London bus journey earlier this year.
Nissanka Dias Subasingha, 19, and living at Landseer Close in Basingstoke, entered a not-guilty plea regarding the charge of failing to pay the fare on a London bus at Bow Road E3 on March 26, 2023.

However, a Wimbledon Magistrates' Court found him guilty on Wednesday, September 27.
The court has ordered Subasingha to pay £1.75 as compensation for the unpaid fare, in addition to a £60 fine for the violation. He has also been directed to cover £250 in costs related to the legal proceedings and a £24 surcharge.
The court has allowed him to make monthly instalments of £100.
