COMMUNITY groups, schools and care homes throughout Basingstoke hosted coffee mornings for a good cause at the end of last month.

Plenty of tea and coffee was drunk and cake was eaten during Macmillan Cancer Support’s Coffee Morning on Friday, September 29.

The national event was supported by clubs, organisations, businesses and individuals across the Basingstoke and Deane area.

Among them was Gazette community news correspondent Chris Horton, who hosted an event at The Coffee Shop in Sherfield on Loddon.

Chris said: "Thanks to Sherfield Coffee Shop for allowing me to host and also the fantastic support by way of donations, raffle prizes, cakes and help. Total raised, to date, is £1,030."

Two students from Queen Mary’s College also went along and supported the event.

General manager Louise Lambert said: "Our Macmillan coffee morning has been a huge amount of fun, everyone at the home is always keen to support this fantastic charity in any way we can. We are very glad to be able to do our bit to raise further awareness for MacMillan and money for the charity.”

Resident Sally Chivers added: "Macmillan is such a fantastic charity and they do such amazing work in the community, we all love raising money for them and the best bit is, we get to eat cake at the same time.”

Coppice Spring Academy, in Pack Lane, Kempshott, also took part in the fundraising event, raising over £300, with both pupils and staff taking part.
