A BROKEN down freight train between Hook and Basingstoke caused delays for rail passengers on Monday, October 9.
South Western Railway (SWR) reported at 5.08pm that a “late running freight train” was affecting the railway line between the two places, with trains being cancelled, delayed or revised because of the problem.
More than five hours later, at 10.20pm, SWR said that following the broken down freight train the line towards Basingstoke had reopened.
A post by the train operator on X, previously known as Twitter, said: “At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at the end of the day.”
By 11.30pm trains were running normally and there were no further delays on the line.
