In what could be described as a perfect finale to the racing season, Castle Combe in Wiltshire enjoyed some of the finest weather of the year, treating both the enthusiastic crowds and the talented drivers to a memorable day of motorsport action, writes Tim Crisp.
In the Castle Combe GT Championship, Andover-based Jamie Sturges in the Ramair Filters VW Golf TCR was looking to collect more points towards securing not only the Class D title but the overall Championship as well.
With two races Jamie scored two class wins and a fifth and fourth overall, which was enough to make him the GT Champion for 2023.
In the BARC OT Publishing Hyundai Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires, there were two races for Don Gillies from Andover. He recorded a 15th and 16th place finishes in those races.
Brands Hatch
The final round of this year's Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship took place on the 2.43 mile Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit over the weekend in front of a large crowd who were enjoying the glorious weather at the Kent venue.
In the BTCC, Ricky Collard in the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK Corolla GR Sport car was looking to add to his impressive season. With three-point scoring drives from the three races, Ricky finished 8th place in the championship with 217 points.
Despite only one podium this year, he consistently scored points this season.
In the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB there were three races over the weekend for local drivers Edward Stanton in the Toro Verde GT 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport car, and Matthew Kyle-Henney in the SW Engineering teams identical car to Ed's.
With both drivers competing in the amateur category it's been a close battle all season long and it was the same over the weekend with both drivers scoring points in each of the three races. However at the end of the season, Edward finished fourth in the title race on 117 points and Matthew with 155 points came home in third place.
In the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship, Harry Foster won the Rookie Championship with a point-scoring driver in his second race of the weekend having failed to finish in race one.
