TRIBUTES have poured in and a candlelit vigil has been held for a popular Basingstoke schoolboy who died suddenly.

Cranbourne School pupil Jensen Morrisen, aged 12, died on Tuesday, October 10 – leaving the community in shock.

Members of the youth football community in Basingstoke and Deane have paid tribute to the Overton Youth FC member, with many holding minute silences prior to matches at the weekend.

Oakley Community Association held a candlelit vigil in Jensen’s honour on Friday, October 13, to give family, friends, and young people the opportunity to reflect, light candles, and remember him.

Headteacher at Cranbourne School, Sarah Conlon, paid tribute to the popular pupil.

She said: “Students and staff have come together at this very difficult time to make sense of what has happened. The loss of Jensen has impacted us all, he is very much missed and loved by his Cranbourne family.”

His football club, Overton Youth FC, held a minute silence, releasing balloons, and wearing armbands. It also postponed its Under 13s game as a mark of respect.

Other Basingstoke teams also held tributes to Jensen including Down Grange Football Club, Chineham Tigers, Bramley United and Winklebury Wizards.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Jensen’s family which has so far raised more than £11,000.

A statement from Cranbourne School said: “The Cranbourne community was saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Jensen Morrisen. Jensen was a wonderful student who approached every day at school with positivity, diligence and a huge smile.

“He had represented the school as part of the football team and most recently was made a house ambassador, taking on the responsibility with pride and enthusiasm. Academically, he was committed to his studies and thrived inside and outside of the classroom.

“Comfort is taken by the amount of people who knew Jensen, and have come together to remember and celebrate him.”
