A WALKING group in Overton has been supported with some vital funding by a housebuilder.
The Overton Walking Group has launched a footpath clearing team that operates in conjunction with the Hampshire Countryside team and the parish council to help keep footpaths and walkways clear all year round.
When the group needed funding for a shed to store all its tools and machinery, it turned to Bewley Homes, which is building a new development in the village.
Bewley supported the group’s initiative and was delighted to see the shed officially open.

The walking group, which has more than 50 members, is now able to safely store all their machinery after use.
John Troman, chairman of Overton Walking Group, said: “It was a really nice gesture by Bewley Homes to support our fundraising to build a shed for all of our tools. Our tools are absolutely essential to keep the walkways clear of debris and brambles and we need them all year round.
“This shed means more to us than just a storage space; it symbolizes the support of our local community and the recognition of the importance of our work. With this newfound resource, we can continue to keep our pathways clear, allowing our fellow villagers to connect with nature and experience the joys of our beautiful countryside."
He added: “Basingstoke and Deane Council has also donated additional funds to pay for our trailer and we are also very grateful for their support.”

Bewley Homes’ sales manager, Stuart Locke, said: “We are delighted to support the Overton Walking Group with this new shed. Our commitment to the local community extends beyond our development projects, and we recognise the importance of initiatives like this. By providing the necessary storage for their equipment, we aim to contribute to the group's efforts in maintaining the natural beauty of the village.
“It will also benefit all our residents at Sovereign Gate who will get to enjoy these beautiful countryside walks. Overton enjoys a significant benefit in that there are many footpaths in all directions from the centre that extend through some lovely countryside.
Elaine Stratford, sales and marketing director at Bewley, added: “Bewley is dedicated to ensuring that we build communities within our developments which enhance the wider village community in existence. We appreciate the many benefits of outdoor space, fresh air, and for children, the ability to ride cycles or play outside in this highly technological age. We know that since Covid, open spaces and places to walk and cycle have come far up the list of desires for our purchasers, who may wish to commute for part of the week and then work from home and are keen to fit exercise into their schedules.”
