OVERTON has been named among the best places to live in England for 2024, according to Muddy Stilettos.
The women's lifestyle website creates a list of the 'best places to live' every year, and it has expanded its number of entrants from 250 to 260 on this occasion.
It draws upon its insight into the 28 most sought-after counties in England, guiding potential buyers to the local hot spots and up-and-coming areas.
In a statement on their social media, they shared: "Come on in! We're thrilled to launch our brand new Best Places To Live 2024 in association with @struttandparker.
"We’ve shortlisted 260 gorgeous villages, towns and cities across our 28 ‘Muddy’ counties and beyond using our insider local knowledge."

Included on this year’s list is Overton, describing the village, the website said: “A well-kept secret sitting quietly near the source of the River Test, the charming North Hampshire village of Overton is very well connected (but doesn’t like to shout about it) and even lays claim to a Jane Austen connection: Hampshire’s First Daughter was born a stone’s throw away in the village of Steventon.
“The village centre is a charming patchwork of period property: leaning 17th century timber-framing, thatched cottages, bijou terraces and more contemporary newer builds. Given the quick train ride into London you get a lot more property for your money here than you might imagine.”

Muddy Stilettos said that “Overton doesn’t lack for watering holes”, naming The White Hart as a “real social hub with a sizable menu”, whilst saying The Greyhound and The Red Lion are “both local favourites serving up very decent pub grub”. It also includes The Old House at Home and Amore for when “you fancy something different”.
There was also praise for the shops, with the website saying: “Unlike other towns and villages, Overton has hung on to many essential local shops and services, like the doctors, pharmacy, vets, library, butchers, bakery, Post Office, greengrocer. There’s even a wine merchant (bonus).”
And as for its best-kept secret, Muddy Stilettos said this was the annual wheelbarrow race. It said: “Locals togged in fancy dress have an absolute blast running (or sitting) in the annual Overton wheelbarrow race, held on and off over the last 30 years. Those who aren’t taking part come out in force to cheer them on and have a pint afterwards.”
