A YELLOW weather warning has been issued by the Met Office as Storm Ciarán is due to batter Hampshire in the coming days.
Storm Ciarán will sweep through the country from Wednesday, November 1, and a yellow weather warning for rain and wind has been forecast in Hampshire, with an amber warning for wind in place on the South Coast.
The Met Office warns that "heavy rain associated with Storm Ciarán is likely to bring disruption to southern parts of England and Wales.
"Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible.
"Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
"Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads and fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life.
"Very strong and potentially damaging winds" associated with Storm Ciarán are likely late Wednesday onwards into Thursday.
The Met Office warns that "there is a slight chance that damage to buildings and homes could occur, with roofs blown off and power lines and trees brought down.
"There is a small chance that flying debris will result in a danger to life" and "there is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties."
The Met Office also warns that "there is a small chance that roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights."
Where damaging winds occur, "there is a chance that power cuts may occur and affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage."
Basingstoke is expected to see the effects of Storm Ciaran from Wednesday, November 1, with the latest forecast as follows:
Wednesday, November 1: Highs of 13C, with 38mph wind gusts expected late in the evening. Residents will wake up to rain which is expected to clear by 10am, and pick up again at 10pm.
Thursday, November 2: Highs of 11C, with 44mph wind gusts expected in the early hours of the morning and late in the evening. Residents can expect to wake up to rain, which will continue throughout the course of the day.
