FOR those who bought a real Christmas tree this festive season, you can recycle them at one of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s 22 collection points.
Alternatively, for those who are subscribed to regular garden waste collection, you can place your tree out to be collected on your normal collection day from Monday, January 8, as a festive offering from the council.
Customers are asked to ensure that all decorations are removed from the tree, and any tree taller than six feet must be cut in half.
The trees can be dropped off from Tuesday, January 2 to Sunday, January 28 at any of the collection points below.
The British Christmas Tree Grower Association (BCTGA) estimates that there are around 6 to 8 million Christmas trees sold in the UK per year.
According to the Carbon Trust, a two-metre artificial tree has a carbon footprint of around 40kg, more than ten times that of a real tree that's burned after Christmas.
