Basingstoke Town's struggles in the Southern Premier League South continued as they faced a disappointing 2-4 defeat at home against bottom-placed Didcot Town.
The loss extends 'Stoke's winless run to nine games, with their last victory dating back to November 4.
Last week they had a defeat against Harrow Borough who are sitting just above Didcot in the table.
Against Didcot Town, 'Stoke took an early lead, but the away side came back to game to lead 2-1 at half-time.
Despite scoring one back to level the score, Didcot put two more in 'Stoke goal to grab all three points.
It was Bradley Wilson who squared the ball to George Reid as 'Stoke opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
Reid was clinical at the far post. 1-0
But Didcot quickly returned to the game by levelling from a penalty in the ninth minute. 1-1
The away side went on to take their chance and score a second in the 35th minute to end the first-half on a high. 1-2
'Stoke pulled level 10 minutes into the second-half, igniting hopes for a comeback.
This time Reid squared it for Wilson who sat the keeper down and finished into an empty net. 2-2
But the joy was shortlived as Didcot took their lead back in the 73rd minute (2-3) and extended it in the 82nd minute (2-4).
'Stoke couldn't find a way to overcome Didcot defence in the final minutes.
Afterwards, manager Dan Brownlie said it was nowhere near good enough.
“Eight games against two teams regarded as relegation candidates. Inexcusable defending, quality of pass and quality of decision making were just woeful.
“The first-half was just a catechism of errors. We played some good football, but the moment it was the final third, there was no quality. In the second-half, we started really well and had 15-20 minutes of dominance. The keeper made some fantastic saves. Unfortunately, as our luck would have it or whether we are not good enough in front of goal, we didn’t put away our chances in a moment we should have done it and the game is a very different landscape.”
‘Stoke’s next game is against AFC Totton away on Boxing Day.
