A BRAMLEY hypnotherapist has published her second children’s book after being inspired by her son.
Gemma Hughes, who lives in Bramley with her children as well as cats Jim and Daisy and horse TJ, wrote the book called The Shark with a Broken Fin following a conversation with her son.
“He was six years old, and he had just had an author visit his school, and I asked him that if I wrote a book, what would he like it to be about?” she said.

The book follows a shark named Jim who becomes the unintentional star of the Undersea Ball; however, he struggles to control his broken fin.
“He reeled off a number of ideas, and amongst them were a snake without a tongue and a shark with a broken fin.
“Both titles lent themselves very well to triumph over adversity stories,” Gemma added.
The picture book was hand-drawn by Ukrainian illustrator Olena Rii, based in Lviv, with the book independently published by Gemma on Amazon on December 8, 2023.

The book currently has five stars on Amazon with one reviewer calling the story ‘lovely’, saying it is ‘helping develop her [daughters’] vocabulary’.
From December 13 to December 31, Gemma donated all profits from the book sales to the Save the Children Gaza Appeal, raising £200 to help the charity distribute aid.
