HOCKEY leagues restarted last weekend with a host of re-arranged fixtures following the cold weather in November.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s kickstarted 2024 by taking on second-placed, and local rivals Winchester 1s in their rearranged league game.
The first half was full of end-to-end gameplay, with Basingstoke winning several penalty corners.
Basingstoke’s first goal came from Catriona Bausor who scored an epic volley, however Winchester then equalised to finish the first half 1-1.
The second half showed no sign of slowing down from either team as Basingstoke’s Chloe Morgan scored from a beautiful cross delivered by Heidi Lloyd. Winchester managed to score again shortly after, making the score 2-2.
The battle continued and with 11 minutes remaining Heidi Lloyd scored to secure Basingstoke a 3-2 win. Basingstoke now sit eighth placed in the table on nine points.
Basingstoke Men’s 1s had a friendly this week, taking on South Berkshire Men’s 1s who currently play in the league above Basingstoke.
Basingstoke were under pressure from the start which Basingstoke soaked up throughout and managed to battle to a 4-3 win with goals from Dean Record, Liam Harrison (2) and Daniel Bowden.
Basingstoke Men’s 1s restart their league campaign next week away against Andover Men’s 1s, who they beat 1-0 in the cup just before Christmas.
Basingstoke Ladies 1s took on the RAF Hockey team in a friendly on Sunday. Basingstoke earnt a fantastic 7-0 win to start their preparation for their next league game on January 27.
Basingstoke Men’s 2s took on third-placed Wimborne Wayfarers in a league fixture. Goals from Lucas Chambers, Rob Sheldrake, Dan Stewart, and Alex Miller earnt a fantastic 4-3.
Basingstoke Men’s 3s beat Salisbury 3s 2-0 in their second win of the season, goals from Luke Holdcroft and Chris Garrett. Basingstoke Ladies 3s lost 1-4 in a friendly against Wycombe.
Basingstoke Ladies 4s won 2-0 against Alton Ladies 2s, goals from Judith Bird and Ulrike Maier, to take them up to fourth in the table. Basingstoke Men’s 4s drew 1-1 with second-placed Fareham Men’s 6s, with Basingstoke sitting at the top of the table.
Basingstoke Men’s 5s had a fantastic 6-1 win against Hamble Men’s 3s in the league, with three goals from Chris Harman. Basingstoke Ladies 5s lost 0-6 to Winchester Ladies 3s.
Basingstoke Ladies 6s lost 2-4 to Petersfield Ladies 2s and Basingstoke Men’s 6s lost 0-1 to Fareham Men’s 7s.
Next week, Basingstoke Men’s 2s are in action at home at 11.45am against Salisbury Men’s 1s, followed by Basingstoke Ladies 2s against Haslemere Ladies 1s at 1.30pm.
