THIS is the state of the Camrose stadium in 2024.

Our town's once beloved stadium has been left to rot over the past five years.

This gallery of 12 photos shows the abandoned football stadium, which has fallen into disrepair. Now that the construction vehicles used to revamp Brighton Hill roundabout have been removed from the Camrose Stadium car park, members of the public have entered the site, to take a look for themselves.

Photographer and Basingstoke Gazette Camera Club member Barry Walker recently flew his drone over the ground, in Western Way, to snap these pictures.

I have my memories of this stadium, playing for Basingstoke Town Colts from a young age, we'd often get the opportunity to play on the ground itself, as well as train on the five-a-side pitches out back.

I would regularly attend matches with my mates under the 'kids-for-a-quid' scheme, spending many an afternoon cheering on the 'Stoke from behind the goal.

There is so much history to this stadium, how many of you knew that many of the red seats came from the original Wembley stadium?

To see it looking like this is heartbreaking.

In the photos, you can see the appalling state of the pitch, which has been taken over by overgrown weeds.

The once thriving clubhouse is now crumbling down, with windows boarded up, and roof falling apart.

You can even see the astroturf pitches, which have seen better days, once used by youth teams to train on after school in the evening, no longer capable of hosting any such activities.

It really is sad to see.

What will happen to it next?

It was recently reported that the Camrose football stadium looks to be lost forever, as no potential bidder has come forward to save the ground. 

Former owner of Basingstoke Town Football Club, Rafi Razzak and his company Basron submitted an application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to knock down the stadium.

The stands, players tunnel, the clubhouse and all other infrastructure will be removed.

According to a notice put up at the stadium, alerting members of the public to the application, the demolition is proposed to start on April 15, 2024.

The site was designated as an asset of community value, providing community interest groups the opportunity to bid for the land if it comes up for sale.

On October 31, 2023, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council received notification from Basron of its intention to sell The Camrose.

Community interest groups were then given six weeks to decide whether they wish to be treated as a potential bidder, with the deadline being Tuesday, December 12. 

The borough council said that no expressions of interest were received, leaving Mr Razzak and Basron free to sell the asset. 

Sports and leisure portfolio holder Cllr Kerry Morrow also confirmed at a full council meeting last Thursday, December 14, that no expressions of interest were received.
