BASINGSTOKE and Whitchurch football grounds are among the grassroots locations that received money in a recent round of funding.

Kingsclere FC’s Headley Recreation Ground, Kingsclere Youth FC’s Michaels Field and The Barry Jackman Sports Pavilion and Pitches in Whitchurch have all benefitted from the latest round of funding.

While The Barry Jackman Sports Pavilion and Pitches received £3,600, the Headley and Michaels Field sites received £1,163 and £1,133 respectively.

North West Hampshire MP Kit Malthouse said the funding is part of the government’s multi-sport grassroots facilities investment. 

He said that more than £200 million has been invested in projects up and down the country since 2021 in improving grass pitches, and upgrading floodlights, goalposts, changing rooms, and toilet facilities. 

The MP said: “This further funding is very good news for our communities in NW Hants who will see better sporting facilities. 

"We know the benefits physical activity can bring to our lives from improving our fitness and mental health to fostering close friendships and camaraderie with teammates. 

"I hope this funding encourages more local people, especially women and girls into sport."
