A WARNING has been issued to parents after a 12-year-old girl was approached by men in a van who asked her if she wanted to get in. 

The girl was approached by men in a white van in Tobago Close whilst on her way home at 4.13pm on Wednesday, February 21. 

Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that police were called to a report of the suspicious incident. 

A police spokesperson said one of the men was described as wearing a face mask and black clothing.

The spokesperson continued: "The child, a 12-year-old girl, ran away and the vehicle drove off. She was not grabbed and was not hurt.

"Since this was reported to us, officers have launched an investigation and have been carrying out enquiries.

"Officers have been conducting patrols in the area and will continue to do so to provide reassurance. We have not received any other similar reports in the area.

"Did you see what happened? Do you have any dashcam footage, CCTV images or doorbell footage that may assist our enquiries?
