I wonder if anybody still remembers the truant catcher of Fairfields School?
He was quite a fearsome person in the days of World War Two.
I believe his name was Mr Pill and his job was to look for children who were not in school without a good excuse.
I well remember him peering through the windows of my old school bus looking for absentees to put in his little notebook.
I have no idea when he retired from this job. Maybe someone knows more than me about this?
