FOURTEEN sites were identified by NHS bosses to build a new hospital, including in Winchester, Andover and Basingstoke.
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) is being urged to consider building a new hospital in Winchester rather than Basingstoke, after a petition reached 20,000.
Winchester residents have backed the petition to save the city’s A&E which is under threat of closure as part of the Hampshire Together new hospital plans.

The NHS Hampshire Together proposals include making Winchester’s maternity midwife-led rather than consultant-led; replacing its emergency department with an Urgent Treatment Centre for Basingstoke and Winchester patients; and building a new acute hospital in Basingstoke, either on the existing site in Aldermaston Road or at Junction 7 of the M3.
However, a petition to save Winchester’s A&E has now gained more than 20,000 signatures, putting pressure on hospital bosses to reconsider their plans and build an acute hospital in Winchester instead.
The campaign is now calling for HHFT to re-consider former sites that were previously considered for a new hospital, including Sir John Moore Barracks, which is a 30-minute, 23-mile drive from Basingstoke town centre.

Here, we look at the full list of 14 sites considered by the trust for a new hospital.
HHFT carried out a site selection study of north and mid-Hampshire in 2020 for a possible location for a new hospital and shortlisted 14 sites for further evaluation.
It shows that the Sir John Moore Barracks, in Winchester, was discounted as a possible site by the trust early on.
Here is the full list of locations identified by a site selection study carried out by HHFT, provided following a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act.
It shows whether the trust discounted the location or shortlisted it for further evaluation. Some do not identify the exact locations that were considered.
The shortlisted locations, which included one in Winchester, one in Andover and three in Basingstoke, have since been whittled down to the two that were part of the public consultation to build a new hospital, which ended on Sunday, March 17.
