BASINGSTOKE Buffalo kept their recent winning run going with a comfortable 6-1 victory over the Chelmsford Warriors last Saturday, writes Graham Merry.
The Herd’s man of the match Paul Petts got the only goal of the first 20 minutes on the powerplay, assisted by Adam Jones and Hallam Wilson.
Jones then fired in another powerplay strike from Cameron Buckle to make 2-0 at 25:19
Chelmsford were then awarded a penalty shot after Ollie Reeves stopped a breakaway chance, but Buffalo netminder Dan Weller-Evans produced an excellent save to deny Ross Cowan.
However, The Warriors did score soon after from Matthew Tilbrook which was assisted by Taylor Chard the son of former Beaver star Phil Chard.
The Herd restored their two goal cushion as Wilson completed a nice move which involved Harry Harcup and Petts.
Just 21 seconds into the final session, Harcup added goal number four.
Within 90 seconds it became 5-1 as Scott Anda netted a shorthanded marker from captain Sam Compton.
The scoring was completed by Harcup assisted by Petts and Buckle in the final 10 minutes.
Top defenceman on the night for the Buffalo was Josh Bundy.
After the match one of the Buffalo player coaches Paul Petts said: “Credit to Chelmsford they worked really hard for the whole 60 minutes, but we came away with the win, which was what we were looking for.”
This Saturday, the Buffalo travel to Lee Valley and will finish third in the league, if they win by three more goals than Bristol beat Peterborough.
However, should Peterborough win then they will finish third and face Cardiff in the play-off quarter-finals and the Buffalo will take on Bristol.
