WHITCHURCH Silk Mill is hosting its second Weftival event on July 5 and 6, 2024, providing an opportunity for the public to interact with a community of textile and weaving professionals.
Between 10.30am and 4pm, the event will present weaving and textile demonstrations, production tours, talks, an exhibition, and workshops which require prior booking.
On July 5, participants can witness a pre-recorded talk by Janet Philips, a fabric designer, handweaver and the author of Designing woven fabrics. Additionally, guests can interact with Meg Stavaru, the Production Skills manager at the centuries-old Coldharbour Mill.
July 6 will introduce a small craft fair featuring textile makers and weavers, along with a children’s crafts area managed by Whitchurch Silk Mill’s volunteer team.
Makers include Char of Mac and Weave, known for her handcrafted and eco-friendly products, and Hampshire artist Hannah Farrant of Felt Things.
Visitors can engage in pre-booked workshops during both days of the occasion.
These comprise of four Shaft Weaving sessions offered by the Silk Mill and drop-in braiding workshops hosted by Sue, known as the Silkewoman.
Janet Philips will display her handwoven pieces during a weaving exhibition featuring works by Whitchurch Silk Mill weavers.
Tickets for this event are £5 each for adults and children aged five to 16 years per day, under five years are free. Tickets are available on the venue’s website.
