A FESTIVAL of football will be held by the Rotary Club of Basingstoke for the first time ever this summer, and this is how you can get involved.

The festival, organised by the Rotary Club of Basingstoke, will take place on Saturday, July 6 at the Winklebury Sports Complex, home of Hampshire FA and current home of Basingstoke Town FC, between 11am and 5pm.

Open to all ages, from children to grandparents, organisers are planning to put on a whole host of activities, from five-a-side to walking football, and a crossbar challenge and there will even be a raffle, complete with some top prizes.

Tunde Adelakun, president of the Rotary Club of Basingstoke, is the brains behind the event. With a background in international football coaching, he plans to "bring the whole Basingstoke community together with the power of football".

He added: "Rotary wants to align with the football season and capitalise on the football fever - the date we've chosen is on purpose - it's the date of the quarter finals of the European Championships, and hopefully people will be able to enjoy this day and go home and watch England in the tournament.

"I am looking forward to it because I feel like there are a lot of people we can connect with, we want to show that Rotary isn't just for old people."

In addition to the sporting events, Tunde also plans to feature a quiz to test the football knowledge of the town with some trivia to "whip up emotion".

A number of organisations are already involved with the event, including Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire FA, however Tunde is on the lookout for more partners and volunteers who can help with the event: "We need volunteers who will be able to spread the word and get involved."

Organisers are looking for volunteers to help things run smoothly, whether you have a spare pair of hands, a background in football coaching, or if you are a charity that would like to play a part, you can get involved by emailing newagerotarybasingstoke@mail.com.
