A 42-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a man in his 40s in Basingstoke.

Samuel De Wulf, of Winterthur Way, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court having been charged by police on Thursday, May 2.

Justin Green died on Monday, April 29 after emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing in Braddock Court, Chapel Gate, at 6.49pm.

On Friday, May 3, De Wulf appeared in front of magistrates, where he only spoke to give his name, date of birth and his address.

De Wulf was remanded back into custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Tuesday, May 7.

Following Mr Green’s death, floral tributes have been left on a lamppost outside Braddock Court and others have shared their sadness at his death on social media.

Chief Inspector Scott Johnson, District Commander for Basingstoke, previously said: “We know this incident will be concerning for the local community, however please be reassured that we are working hard to establish the exact circumstances of what took place.

“Officers are carrying out extensive enquiries in the local area, and at this stage, we believe there is no wider risk to the public at this time.

“There will also be increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance. If you have any concerns or information, please don’t hesitate to speak to our officers.

“Our teams are keen to hear from anyone who has any information about what happened. Were you in the Braddock Court area last night? Did you see or hear anything unusual or concerning?

“Do you have any doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage which may help the investigation?”

Two other men, aged 48 and 43 from Basingstoke, arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released and will receive no further action.
