STRATFIELD Turgis booked their place in the first round of the Cyril Thompson Trophy, after a five-wicket win over Yateley at May’s Bounty, writes Graham Merry.
The losers won the toss and elected to bat and finished on 158-4 from their 20 overs.
Josh Gore top scored with 65, while there was one wicket a piece for Gary Cockcroft, Dijin Narikoden and Shashank Agrawal.
The winners reached their target with nine balls to spare after good knocks from Cockcroft (37) Rajdeep Das (34) and Chris Butcher (33). Rob Barrett returned 2-40 for Yateley.
The reward for Stratfield Turgis is a clash with Rotherwick on Monday July 15.
The next games in the Trophy are in the first week of June when Odiham and Greywell B take on Ashford Hill (Monday June 3) and then Basingstoke Development XI face Oakley B (Tuesday June 4). Both games are at May’s Bounty (6pm) and admission is free.
In the Guy Jewell Cup, Rotherfield Park became the second side to make the semi-finals after a six-wicket victory over Hartley Wintney.
Hartley having won the toss elected to bat and scored 127-5 from their 16 overs.
Ben Williams top-scored with 45 from 27 balls.
Despite losing Dan Harris with only six on the board, Rotherfield were then always in control as they reached their target in the 14th over.
This was thanks to Sam Ruffell (40), Joe Paul (36) and Jack Penn (26). Jamie Teale was the pick of the Hartley bowlers with 3-22.
