The Bernard Cornish Cup Final, on Sunday, May 26, between two Sunday Division 2 sides, was full of endeavour but light on producing a finished result, with the underdogs Brookvale United just shading possession in the goalless first half, writes Tony Spencer.

The deadlock was broken on 58 minutes when Al-Hakam lobbed his corner kick to the far post where unmarked Adam Amiable headed over the keeper to drop into the net for the only goal of the game. Amiable also got the Man of the Match award.

Also on Sunday, on their fourth successive appearance in the Kelvin Cup, Tidworth Town Youth finally won the cup with a masterful performance on Sunday, beating Overton United 3-1.

Tidworth took the lead on 21 minutes with a shot from the left by Arran Moore which beat the keeper at the near post.

Tidworth had most of the possession but Bailey Roffey netted Overton United’s equaliser on 45+1 minute, 1-1 at the interval.

Callum Sweeney restored Tidworth’s lead with a long distance shot into the top right hand corner of the net on 58 minutes.

The match could have gone either way with both sides battling for few clear cut chances but a penalty awarded to Tidworth was put away by Greg Peel on 75 minutes.

Alfie Moulding was awarded Man of the Match award.
