A BASINGSTOKE mother has been told she has two uteruses after suffering heavy bleeding during her period for more than a decade.

Jade Williams was diagnosed with Uterus Didelphys, a rare condition in which women can develop two uteruses, following surgery in October.

The 31-year-old experienced heavy bleeding after giving birth to her first daughter, Elouise, in 2012, describing having to use 20 to 30 sanitary towels a day due to the high volume of blood.

Jade, who works as a manager at McDonald's, said: "I was working, but I had to get sent home often because I was bleeding so much.

"It was stopping me from doing my daily activities because I didn't want to leave the house."

She explained that it was 'particularly hard' during the summer as her children wanted to go swimming, but she 'couldn't wear summery stuff', instead having on layers of clothes including a jumper, in case she bled through.

After visiting her GP, Jade said she was told 'some women bleed more than others' with her symptoms 'likely to be caused by stress'.

Concerned that the bleeding could be a sign of something more serious, Jade transferred to Basingstoke hospital. She said: "I kept being told that it was because I have cysts on my ovaries, but I spoke to another friend going through the same thing, and her symptoms were completely different."

Under the care of consultants, the mother-of-four had a biopsy of her womb to check for cancer. After undergoing surgery to inspect her womb, Jade was told she had a double uterus, something the hospital had 'never dealt with before'.

Jade said that she 'wasn't at all aware of the condition' prior to her diagnosis, adding: "I'm worried about my daughter, she's coming up to 13 and I don't know if she could have it as well.

"I want to get my story out there, and raise awareness for women that are experiencing heavy bleeding as well."
