A VETERAN from Hook is encouraging residents to join a fundraising challenge commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

David Moncrieff, who served as a mechanical engineer in the RAF, has been appointed as an ambassador for charity; Walking With The Wounded's 'Longest Day 80' challenge.

The charity supports ex-service personnel by providing mental, physical and social support to veterans and their families.

The fundraising challenge will see supporters take on activities based on the number 80 throughout June, such as cycling or walking 80 miles, or 80 minutes of daily exercise.

David said: "It is a great honour to represent Walking With The Wounded as the ambassador for the Longest Day 80 fundraising challenge. I served in the Armed Forces for 22 years.

"Military life can be both rewarding and tough, and I've had experiences that will stay with me forever. I've learned that no matter how hard life gets, you must push on and be as resilient as possible.

"This message will hopefully resonate with everyone participating in Longest Day 80. Although the challenge may be tough, it's important to persevere because the funds you raise will significantly impact our veteran community."

The charity's head of relationships, Victoria Doran, said: "The Longest Day 80 fundraising challenge is a great way to show support for those who served whilst paying respects to the historic D-Day landings and the sacrifice made by so many all those years ago.

"All donations from the fundraising challenge will make a significant difference to the veterans and families that WWTW supports."
