A DOG owner whose pup had to undergo a life-saving operation for a stomach ulcer has started a fundraiser to help pay for the treatment.

The Basingstoke couple are asking for help after their Great Dane, Otis, was forced to have surgery after collapsing in the garden.

She said: "He's such a lovely dog, he's a showstopper and every time we go out we get stopped every few minutes because he is so friendly."

Otis was rushed to the emergency vet on Sunday, May 5, after he collapsed in the garden. The vet gave the dog the all-clear, sending him home.

With the help of her neighbours, the dog was taken to another vet after a phone call, in which it was recommended that she should bring Otis in to the clinic to receive immediate care.

Otis was told he had a 'very low chance of survival' as his insides were being 'destroyed by all his stomach contents'.

Otis was in intensive care for a week, which was a 'very traumatic situation which caused him to be a 'lot quieter than he used to be' and 'more apprehensive'.

The care cost approximately £30,000, with half of the amount, £15,000, covered by the pair's insurance.

The couple are fundraising to cover the rest of the costs, as they said they would 'do whatever we have to do for him'.

"He is our absolute world," they said.
