HUNDREDS of homes and businesses in and around Lychpit have been hit by a power outage.

The power went out at approximately 2.17pm on Tuesday, June 4. 

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) says the power cut has affected 550 properties across 38 postcodes.

According to SSEN, the outage was 'unplanned'.

It said: "We're very sorry for the power cut and are aware of a fault on our main network affecting 550 homes. This is affecting a large area and it's likely several streets in your area are affected by the same outage."

It added that engineers are in the area working to get the power restored 'as soon as possible'.

It's understood that the power cut was caused by a fault on SSEN's network.

Power is expected to be restored by 8.30pm.
