Basingstoke & North Hants suffered a third ECB Southern Premier Division defeat by new leaders South Wilts at May's Bounty.
The opening round of red ball all-day 'time pennant' matches saw them reduce South Wilts from a threatening 158-3 to 212 all out.
But South Wilts bowled Basingstoke out for 150, with Australian Grant Freeman and left-arm spinner Tom Grant sharing eight of the hosts' wickets.
South Wilts openers Tom Cheater (32) and James Degg (30) peppered the Bounty boundary, all bar seven of their 57-run start crossing the rope.
Matt Donaldson (4-35) broke the stand, but Harry Broderick, with three sixes hits in a lively 39, and a more patient Jack Mynott (36) took the score past 150 before the innings subsided.
Donaldson and Joe Oates took two wickets each as South Wilts lost seven batsmen for 54 runs, underlying the lack of depth in most SPL sides.
Basingstoke continued the theme of losing quick wickets with Matt Deadman feathering a catch behind second ball and teenager Alex Bovill dismissed off the last ball of the second over. Basingstoke 2-2.
Ash Neal (59) did his best to keep Basingstoke afloat, but with Freeman (4-48) taking out three of their top five no meaningful partnerships developed.
Wickets continued to fall with left-armer Tom Grant (4-40) removing Neal and three later batsmen to leave the Bountymen 150 all out.

Brothers Brad and Ash Neal, along with George Metzger, hit half-centuries as Basingstoke & North Hants swept into the last 16 of the Southern Premier League T20 Cup with big wins over Rowledge and Bashley (Rydal).
Brad Neal went on a six-hitting spree in the preliminary round tie against Rowledge, lofting seven shots clean out of the School Road ground on his way to a rampant 70, while younger brother Ash kept the ball on the floor, hitting nine fours in his 54.
Basingstoke's 176-4 proved far too many for Rowledge, who managed 119-7, teenager Oli Ryman scoring 47.
Matt Donaldson took 3-9 as Stoke whipped a badly weakened Bashley (Rydal) out for 97 (James Trodd 25) - a total they passed with three wickets down, Metzger hitting 63.
Basingstoke are drawn away to South Wilts in the second round.

Sam Lockwood smashed 102 and shared a huge 173-run opening partnership with Harry Warner as Hook & Newnham Basics blasted a towering 298-7 before ending table topping Portsmouth's unbeaten Southern Premier Division 1 start.
He hit 10 fours and two sixes in his 102 - his second competitive Hook century since moving from Kent League side Sidcup in 2020 - as Basics chalked up a notable 82-run win.
Warner (70) continued his good early season form before skipper Josh Buckingham leathered 73 off 49 balls.
Mohammd Ashraful (69), the former Bangladesh captain, found initial support from Carlin Joy (38), but Hook gradually chipped away with Cam Hall (4-50) and Jack Murrell (3-37) bowling the visitors out for 216.
Hook seconds also pulled off a good win, dismissing SPL3 high fliers Trojans for 91 before securing a three-wicket win.
