A MAN threatened a member of staff at Pizza Express with a knife.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of threatening a person with an offensive weapon after an incident at the popular pizza restaurant outside Festival Place.

On Friday, June 7, a man entered Pizza Express, Festival Place, shouted abusive language, picked up a knife and threatened a member of staff.

The incident happened at around 9.53 pm. Nobody was injured and the man left the restaurant.

A 38-year-old man from Lewes has been arrested on suspicion of threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place, and police told the Gazette he remains in custody.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told the Gazette: "Officers are investigating following an incident at Pizza Express, Festival Place, Basingstoke.

"It has been reported that at around 9.53pm on Friday, 7 June a man entered the restaurant shouting abusive language before picking up a table knife and threatening a member of staff.

"No-one was injured and the man left the restaurant.

"A 38-year-old man from Lewes has been arrested on suspicion of threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place. He is currently in custody."
