CONCERT-goers will be able to enjoy a choreographed aerial display by a legendary Spitfire at Highclere Castle Battle Proms.
The picnic concert, on Saturday, August 3, which supports SSAFA, the armed forces charity, will feature an appearance by the Grace Spitfire, an appearance made especially poignant in 2024 as this very plane shot down the first enemy aircraft 80 years ago on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
The moving Spitfire display, which takes place during the Battle Proms, will accompany the opening orchestral pieces including Elgar’s Nimrod, performed by The New English Concert Orchestra, led by Douglas Coombes MBE.
The Highclere Castle Battle Proms is a wonderful opportunity to see this iconic plane in all its glory in this historic anniversary year.

Highclere Castle was the seat of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who, in 1922, famously discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun with his colleague Howard Carter. More recently, the castle has become the central character in the ITV period drama Downton Abbey which has achieved extraordinary international fame.
The Battle Proms takes place directly overlooking this impressive and iconic building.
