AS A borough councillor I’m deeply concerned about what electing Luke Murphy as our MP would mean for Basingstoke and Deane.

Luke has pushed for increased housing development, despite Basingstoke already growing nearly twice as fast as the national average, straining our infrastructure. What may be right for Lambeth, Luke, isn’t right for Basingstoke.

Angela Rayner recently dismissed prioritising social homes for veterans, locals, or key workers as a 'gimmick,' raising questions about who you want to build these homes for Luke, Basingstoke or the national Labour Party?

(Image: Matt Rooks-Taylor)The council tax reforms he has proposed would increase taxes for many local homeowners, a policy based on a London-focused research which would disproportionately impact on Basingstoke residents, it’s clear from Luke's articles that he is a ‘London’ politician, but I’m interested in what he wants to do about Basingstoke.

Does he really believe we need to build even more homes here, beyond current projections? And does he still think Basingstoke residents' council tax should be revalued to potentially subsidise others?'
