A HOME in Sherborne St John will once again be opening its doors for the National Garden Scheme.

The Mill House boasts a stunning garden and a completely rebuilt, working water mill at The Mill Pond.

Harry and Devika Clarke bought the Mill House nearly nine years ago, and have worked to get the mill up and running. The power generated is used to provide all the electricity used in the house.

Harry and Devika bought the house in 2015, with the garden in a very neglected state despite it having won horticultural prizes in the 1970s.

The 2.5 acre garden area is on heavy clay and it is still a work in progress, although some of the earlier planting is now beginning to mature.

From 2pm to 6pm on Thursday, June 27 and Sunday, June 30 there is a rare chance to see the wheel and walk the surrounding gardens of Mill House. They are open to the public for five pounds each, with children being able to enter for free.

Homemade tea and other refreshments will be available, with ample car parking at the house.

The National Garden Scheme opens privately owned gardens in England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and the Channel Islands on selected dates for charity.

By visiting gardens like these, you can help the scheme raise huge amounts of money which is distributed to its beneficiaries. These include charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and Hospice UK to name but a few.

In 2023 the NGS raised a record amount, and donated £3.4m to deserving causes.
