THE annual Old Basing and Lychpit Carnival will take place on Saturday, June 15 at the Recreation Ground in the village of Old Basing.

In time honoured fashion the day will start with a procession through Old Basing with the theme being the Olympics.

This will start from the Royal British Legion Club in Crown Lane at noon and be led by the Royal British Legion Band.

The procession will travel along The Street and finish at the Recreation Ground. Whilst the procession is taking this route, road closures will be in force. Spectators are welcome to watch from the road side.

There are two ways to enter the venue on foot, at Riley Lane or at main entrance to the Rec. Free parking is possible at the main entrance to the Rec.

The cost is £2 per person, with children under-five going free and please note (as per the parish council rules) no dogs are allowed in the Recreation Ground.

Entrance payment will be by cash or card with a separate lane for each. Some attractions will be accepting cash only so having some cash to hand would be advisable.

Opening the event will be Old Basing resident Katherine Antrobus. She was part of a trio who recently rowed across the Atlantic from the Canaries to Antigua.

For the first time this year the carnival is working with the Anvil Arts Musication Station. This is a drop-in music project which provides a range of electric and acoustic instruments for people of all ages and abilities to try.

The arena displays will include a demonstration of medieval sword fighting techniques from the Kites of Wessex, as well as dancers and a martial arts display.

There will be a host of classic cars on show and the chance to try out archery.

Last year, the traditional games proved a big hit so are back by popular demand, but remember they are cash only. Around the arena there will local craft and charity stalls and there will also be a great selection of foods and beverages.
