AFTER a lucky stretch of free parking for visitors due to 'technical issues', Festival Place in Basingstoke has announced that its parking machines are now functioning normally.

Shoppers who enjoyed complimentary parking since the beginning of June can expect to pay standard fees again.

As previously reported, Festival Place advised customers on May 31 that parking would be free over the weekend but would return "to our normal rates on Monday."

However, two weeks later the parking had remained free in the shopping centre, and Festival Place said it was down to problems with the machines, and not a generous giveaway.

The shopping centre has now confirmed the parking charges are back on.

A spokesperson said: "You may be aware that we’ve been having some technical issues with our parking machines. These have now been resolved and the machines are working as normal. Thank you for bearing with us.”
