PLANNING permission has been approved to place McDonald's signs on a shopfront in Hatch Warren.
The application, which was submitted by the fast food company on February 8, sought permission to alter the shopfront and add access doors to Unit 4 in Hatch Warren Retail Park.
The unit was previously occupied by Poundstretcher but has remained vacant since the store's closure in October 2022 due to high rent prices.

The application was heard by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's development control committee meeting on Wednesday, June 12 after 13 written objections were received in response.
The objections raised concerns about antisocial behaviour, littering and traffic. Graham Hunter, a resident in the area, said: "It is inevitable that the presence of a McDonald's so close to Beggarwood Park will result in a lot of littering within the park.
"With the excessive littering that always occurs in the vicinity of McDonald's restaurants, there would be a risk of damaging/unbalancing the natural ecosystems present within the park."
Another resident, Craig Sedge, said: "Whilst a food establishment would be welcome, in fact, needed for the area, a McDonald's is absolutely not needed.
"There are sufficient within Basingstoke already."

However, two residents raised support for the plans. Michael Armstrong said there was 'no reason to object', adding: "More jobs for us younger lot to have available will be good.
"[It] will also be good for a long-term empty unit to be filled."
However, the committee has granted the application.
In a report recommending the application for approval, the planning officer said that 'it is acknowledged that there are concerns and objections from members of the public', but the application 'applies only to the external changes in appearance'.
The plans mark Basingstoke’s fifth McDonald's in the area, following the opening of the Chineham Shopping Centre restaurant on May 22.
The retailer also has branches in Basingstoke town centre, Brighton Hill, and the leisure park.
