CATS Protection Basingstoke has launched an appeal to find a home for tabby cat Max after six months in its care.

Max, a 15-year-old tabby and white cat, has been passed over 'repeatedly' due to his age, according to the charity.

Lynne Whiteland, adoptions team leader at the charity, said: “We deal with many sad cases but my heart sinks every day that passes and I see that our most elderly resident is still with us.

“Max is an independent and intelligent cat who needs stimulation so being in a pen for six months can’t be good for him. He really does need fresh outlets to vent his natural curiosity and all that pent-up energy.”

Cat's Protection is the UK's largest cat welfare charity and is currently working at capacity, with no fosterers able to look after Max.

Lynne said: “All our foster places are full so that isn’t an option and we are compelled to keep Max in an outdoor pen on his own. Max is an example of why we are appealing for more fosterers, as the need for our services is only increasing.”

The charity added that housing Max in a pen has caused him to show signs of frustration and minor behavioural issues, including nipping his fosterer's fingers to show when he's received enough attention.

Max needs an adopter who can establish a 'hands-off bond' at first, as Max becomes familiar with the new environment.

He also needs a home without children, as well as being the only pet in the household.

The 15-year-old tabby is available to be homed immediately and has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and without any known health issues.
