A MAN was spotted acting suspiciously on a Basingstoke road, before smiling at a teenage girl and stopping his vehicle.

Police were called at 2.45pm on Thursday, June 20, to a man acting suspiciously in Shakespeare Road, Popley.

The caller stated that a man in a black car had smiled at a 16-year-old girl, prior to stopping his vehicle. The girl ran off and was not followed.

A police spokesperson said: “We want to reassure the community that we have received no further reports of any similar suspicious incidents in the area, and we are in contact with local schools.

“The matter has since been filed pending further information, should it come to light.”

A letter sent to parents at a Basingstoke school, seen by the Gazette, says the suspect is alleged to be a black man, with dark glasses and dark hair in a long black car, make and model unknown.
