REFORM UK has removed its candidate Raymond Saint from its official page for the Basingstoke constituency after it was revealed that he was recorded as a member of British National Party (BNP) in a leaked document published in 2009.

Mr Saint, who filed his nomination as the Basingstoke candidate for Nigel Farage-led party, has been dropped from contesting in the upcoming general election, according to Guardian.

A WikiLeaks document has listed Mr Saint as a member of BNP. The list also shows his home address, the same as in the nomination papers filed for the Basingstoke election.

The leaked document also describes him as a retired engineer with MSc and BA in Technology, with hobbies including shooting small and full-bore rifles, and making live steam locomotives.

The Gazette tried to contact Mr Saint on the phone and email to ask his BNP link, but he disconnected saying "I don't want to comment" and didn't reply to the email.

Reform UK's page for Basingstoke constituency had Mr Saint as the candidate listed on Thursday morning (June 27), but by afternoon his photo and name were removed.

A party spokesperson told Guardian: “As Nigel Farage has repeatedly made plain, people who belong or used to belong to the BNP are not welcome in the Reform UK party.

“Every candidate was asked to declare their past or present political affiliations and was specifically asked whether they had ever been a member of the BNP. Mr Saint failed to do so and clearly lied to us.”

Mr Saint is a former plumber and teacher at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT).

Speaking to the Gazette after filing his nomination, Mr Saint had said his policies included securing borders, reforming the health service and reducing the size of government.

"I would regard myself as conservative and always voted accordingly but unfortunately during the last few years I find myself politically homeless as the party has completely lost its way and, in my opinion, can no longer be regarded as conservative," he previously said.

"After 13 years of this government, the country seems to be completely broken and no one in the administration appears to have a clue how to fix the problems.

"This is the reason I decided to join the Reform Party in the hope that together we can try to bring the country back to some kind of normality."

Mr Saint was the only candidate missing in a recent husting organised by Basingstoke Hindu Society.

Reform UK was founded by Catherine Blaiklock with support from Nigel Farage in November 2018 as the Brexit Party. It is now led by Nigel Farage. According to the most recent YouGov poll data, it was projected to gain 11 per cent of the vote in Basingstoke.
