Basingstoke Community Radio marked five years of airing local stories, music, and events on June 27.

Funded by a National Lottery grant, the station evolved from a humble project in a community centre into a three-studio station featuring a custom outside broadcasting trailer.

The station was founded in 2019 in response to a lack of community radio infrastructure in the town.

Volunteers took the initiative in creating a platform that now amplifies local stories, music, charities and community groups.

The outside broadcast trailer deepens the engagement with the Basingstoke community, by capturing local events at their core.

As the journey continues after their fifth milestone, the team at Basingstoke Community Radio commits to continue broadcasting Basingstoke's distinctive voice in the future.

To be part of the celebrations, listeners were invited to tune in and connect with their vibrant society.

David Chatten Smith, Station Manager and Charity Chairperson, said: "It all started small. But we knew Basingstoke deserved its own voice on the airwaves. From that initial spark, Basingstoke Community Radio has blossomed into a fully professional operation with a strong commitment to serving the community."
