Old Basing Tennis Club recently invited the 1st Lychpit Brownies and the Old Basing Cavalier Cubs to a lesson in tennis fundamentals.
The club first hosted 19 girls from the Lychpit Brownies, teaching them the essential tennis skills of forehand, volley, and serve.
The following evening, 30 Cavalier Cubs took their turn at the Old Basing courts.
The young players divided into small groups, each using a mini net to set up their own miniature tennis court.
Both sessions were developed by the club's coach, Eduardo Caffarena, who received support from six club members. According to organisers, both events were well received.
Notably, the training was specifically tailored for the younger demographic, employing mini nets, small rackets, and soft tennis balls to enhance their experience.
In light of the success of these events, Old Basing Tennis Club is looking into the possibility of repeating these events next year.
In fact, one youngster has already shown an increased interest in the sport, now frequently seen playing at the club.
Old Basing Tennis Club chairman, Nigel Hatt said: "The Club wanted to do something for youngsters in the local area who may have never held a tennis racket before.
"The Brownie and Cubs tennis taster sessions were a great success with lots of fun and laughter and thankfully the sun shone which was great news for everyone."
Located in the picturesque surroundings of Old Basing’s Recreation Ground on Riley Lane, the club is open to adults and youngsters of all skill levels.
A comprehensive coaching offer is available, alongside four sociable weekly tennis sessions, drills sessions, and league matches for the more competitive attendees.
