Wimbledon mania prompted Basingstoke caregiver Julie Daws to surprise her elderly clients with a unique treat.

Julie, 50, visited her clients on Monday, July 1 in tennis attire to serve strawberries and cream, inspired by their love for the famous tournament.

The caregiver, who works with Right at Home Basingstoke, has a history of marking special occasions — this past Easter, for example, she wore bunny ears and distributed chocolate eggs.

Julie is dedicated to reducing isolation for older and disabled adults, encouraging continued connection with the world beyond their houses.

She said: "Some of my clients told me they love Wimbledon, and I love watching Wimbledon, so it seemed to make sense, but any reason to put a big smile on their faces was good enough for me.

"I love knowing that I have made them feel happy, today and every day."

In June, Right at Home Basingstoke received a five-star Employer Award for the fourth year running.

One of Julie's clients Robert, aged 87, said: "I have always gotten on well with Julie, I am very fond of her. She often comes in with something for me to take part in and she makes me smile. I enjoyed my strawberries and look forward to what she thinks up next."

Another on of Julie’s clients, Nina, aged 85, said: "I shop once a week and the difference in taste of the fresh strawberries from Julie was lovely. I really enjoyed them, and Julie is wonderful."

Right at Home Basingstoke registered manager, Emily Colliss, said: "Our clients are always delighted when Julie pays them a visit – she is the one they all want to spend time with. Julie also regularly enhances their well-being with social events, ensuring they are socially integrated."

This accolade is based on satisfaction surveys from 27 caregivers, conducted by independent research company WorkBuzz.
