A BASINGSTOKE man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a bin was set on fire.

Officers were called at 4.26am on Thursday, July 4, to reports that a bin was on fire in Reading Road, Chineham. No injuries were reported.  

Police attended the scene and a 68-year-old man from the Basingstoke area was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He remains in custody while enquiries continue.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers are working hard to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for witnesses.
